We first saw Mackie's new iPad mixer when it was
announced at NAMM a few weeks ago. While it was initially the
DL1608's brilliantly psychedelic product video that caught our eye
(see bottom!), we've since become quite enamoured with the digital
mixer. So we're very pleased to now be taking pre-orders for when
it ships in June.
The Mackie DL1608
acts as a dock for your iPad, and connects wirelessly to let you
control the mixer via Mackie's Master Fader iPad app. Multiple
screens within the app give you fader control, compression and gate
settings at your fingertips, along with reverb and delay effects, a
31-band master EQ and easy-to-use presets.
When he first saw it unveiled, our audio consultant Rob Holsman
was impressed by the Mackie DL1608's mobile credentials. "You can
plug everything into the box, set the gain levels and then just
hide it on stage somewhere, so you've got no long cables runs," he
said.
Another of our audio experts, Alex Judd, could see the potential
of the digital mixer for a range of users and applications. He
said: "The DL1608 has great potential in AV use as well as the
obvious live performance advantages. Whether it be in a club,
conference room or rehearsal space, as long as there's a Wi-Fi
network you can tweak your levels from wherever you are and ensure
the best listening experience possible."
- The Mackie DL1608 will be shipping in June, but to get your
hands on one with an iPad 2 included (and a massive discount of
