The Roland R-26 is
a step ahead of the crowded field recorder market, allowing
musicians, engineers and sound designers to record up to six
channels of live audio through two pairs of stereo
mics.
This means recording bands, presentations or any other live
audio performance is now better than ever, with simultaneous line
and ambient signal path capture, and a handy LCD touchscreen for
navigating menus and adjusting settings.
Audio consultant Alex Judd explained how you can use the mic
setup on the Roland R-26: "There are four built-in microphones -
two directional (X and Y) and two omnidirectional. Using the
touchscreen menu you can choose one or the other or, using a
virtual fader, you can blend both types together."
There is also a new level of flexibility, as the R-26 records
three separate stereo mixes. "One mix is the stereo mics, another
is the omni mics and the third is both sets of mics mixed together.
This is perfect if you can't decide which to use at the time of
capture, as you can choose from the individual tracks or composite
mixes afterwards."
As well as recording, the R-26 can be used as a USB 2.0 audio
interface for Windows and Mac, allowing data transfer and
high-quality input for your audio recording software. A rear-panel
mount also allows you to easily attach the R-26 to any camera
tripod, or a mic stand with an adaptor, so it's always at hand
while you're shooting or adjusting other audio equipment.
